Maplewood Stables, Inc. is a complete horse training, stable and sale business. Established in 1977, we are dedicated to showing champion hunters, jumpers, and hunt seat equitation at all levels throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Our stallions Osilvis and Cartouche Z are currently showing extensively on the show circuit. Recent successes include Osilvis's win in the $50,000 Showpark Grand Prix as well as first in the $10,000 Hood River Grand Prix and second in the $30,000 Country Classic Grand Prix. Cartouche Z was third in the $30,000 Country Classic Grand Prix and won the 1.40m Speed Jumpers at Spruce Meadows in Canada. Both of these champion stallions are available to a select number of mares each year.
  Julie Winkel, the owner of Maplewood Stables, Inc., is a champion rider herself and is frequently asked to judge prestigious shows such as the USEF Medal Finals and World Cup Finals. Maplewood offers Julie's expertise in training champion hunters, jumpers and equestrians.
We offer a complete training program year-round, for beginning through advanced horsemanship. Our advanced riders show extensively on the "A" circuit throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Canada, as well as the the East Coast finals.
Our facilities are well-known for their high quality with indoor and outdoor arenas, a Grand Prix field, newly-renovated clubhouse, 24-hour security, and 150 acres of gorgeous parkland and trails for leisure riding. Please be sure to visit our Facilities page for more details and photographs.

Cartouche Z
Maplewood Stables is proud to announce our stallion, Cartouche Z, is available for breeding this season. "Ace" is our 11 year old Grey Zangersheide, and had a champion record from the Indio Desert Circuit 2005.

Osilvis
Osilvis, by Silvio II out of Iregina (by Nimmerdor), is our 1996 Chocolate Palomino and is also available to a select number of mares this season. Osilvis has a great show record as well, winning the $50,000 Grand Prix of California at Showpark and the $10,000 Grand Prix in Hood River. Not only is he unbeleivably beautiful and exceptionally talented, but he is a lamb to work with.

Andrew wins Bronze!
Andrew won 3rd Place, Junior Division USA Pentathlon Championships Bronze medal. Very tough competition against Olympic athetes.

Congratulations to Becky Young & Orisis (aka Zeus) by Osilvis. They have won 3- 5 yr.old YJC events at Ledges Spring Classic Horse Shows in Chicago, IL. They received a cooler as well as great prize money and valuable points for Osilvis as top young jumper sire!
Where in the world is Julie?
Julie had the honor of judging the 40th annual Bishop Mule Days-Hunter, Jumper and English pleasure classes May 19 & 20. Fun!
Next on the judging schedule-June 1-7, was The Upperville Colt & Horse Show, in it's 156st year, it's the oldest horse show in America! This was Julie's 5th time to officiate at this prestigious event! Julie has also been asked to judge the inaugural $100,000. Hunter Derby Finals in Lexington, KY in August. Quite an honor!!
Welcome 2009 foals!
Our two flashiest foals so far this year are by Cartouche Z: Paula had a beautiful bay colt with four socks and a blaze on May 14 named Joker. Maggie had a beautiful chestnut filly with three stockings and a blaze May 12, named May.
Mimi had a darling chestnut filly with two socks and a blaze, by Osilvis. Mia is her name! We also had two Cinco de Mayo foals: Tilly out of Tessa by Osilvis and Cinco out of Sky by Cartouche Z. Welcome also to Mystery out of Telestar Nike by Cartouche Z.

Nevada Cup.
Two of Maplewood's riders-Amelia Esqueda riding Rebel and Tara Bowlby riding Clean Slate, were the only northern Nevada riders to qualify for the Nevada Cup held at this years World Cup Finals in Las Vegas. The event was held April 14 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Kevin Winkel was Chef d' Equip of the team along with World Cup Finalist Ashlee Bond. The participants received credentials which allowed them in the barns and arenas for course walks during the world cup finals. It was a very enriching adventure!

Many Maplewood students and trainers enjoyed the World Cup Finals held in Las Vegas April 15-19.
Julie then flew to Lexington, KY for the Licensed Officials Committee meeting of the USEF, which she has been newly appointed to! Congratulations, Julie!
